5 Secrets For Turning Obstacles Into Success

April 9, 2021

Everyone faces obstacles. There’s no doubt about that. Unfortunately, many people are scared of obstacles, and shut down whenever they see one coming.  Instead of running from obstacles, you should be turning them into success. How do you do that? In this tutorial, I’m going to tell you just that by looking at the 5 secrets for turning obstacles into success. Let’s get started.

1.      Change Your Mindset

The first step to turning an obstacle into success is to change your mindset. Many people view obstacles as the end of the road. As a result, they shrink back from the obstacle and don’t find ways around it or to improve themselves. Flip the script to become successful.

What this means is that you need to change your mindset from a defeatist perspective to an opportunity of growth one. Every obstacle that comes your way is an opportunity to challenge yourself and grow as an individual. Viewing obstacles as opportunities is the best way to become successful.

2.      Think About It Rationally

As children, we often responded to obstacles emotionally. This included pouting, crying, or blaming someone else for the problem. Now that we are adults, we need to face our obstacles head on and rationally.

Although it is totally fine to cry on occasion, wipe away those tears eventually and think about the obstacle with a clear head. This gives you opportunities to think clearly about your next step so you can ultimately overcome the obstacle and become successful.

3.      Reflect On Your Past

As I have already mentioned, your life is full of obstacles. This is actually a good thing because it means that you can learn from your past mistakes. Whenever you face a new obstacle, remember that you have likely faced a similar situation before.

Reflect on your past and see if you can learn anything from it. If you think hard enough, you will likely think of a past scenario that will help you with your current one. Incorporate what you learned from your past into your present and future to become successful.

4.      Design Your Next Step

Once you have thought about the obstacle rationally and reflected on your past, it is time to think about your action steps for resolution. Your action steps are going to be how you approach the obstacle in order to turn it into success.

Put your ideas into action. If you notice that your first plan didn’t workout, that’s OK. Adjust it and keep going with your resolution. That is why I chose the word “design.” A design is a blueprint that isn’t set in stone. Your steps for resolution are a design in that you may need to alter them along the way.

5.      Reflect

Once the immediate obstacle in front of you is resolved, your job is not over yet. Since obstacles are bound to happen in the future, it is best to reflect on obstacles as soon as you accomplish them so that you can recall what you have learned better in the future.

What this means is that you should reflect on your process and all of your learnings once the obstacle has been immediately resolved. You can even make notes in a journal or on your computer so you can easily jog your memory in the future.

Final Thoughts

As you can see, obstacles are really opportunities for success. Begin by changing your mindset, and then follow up by thinking about the obstacle rationally, reflecting on your past, and designing your next step. Once the obstacle has been resolved, reflect on the obstacle to ensure future success too.
